This magnificent devotional composition portrays the sacred birth of Lord Shri Rama, shown as the divine infant resting in an ornate royal cradle, accompanied by King Dasharatha and Queen Kaushalya. Rich jewellery, royal costumes, vibrant colours and the elaborate palace-style setting give the artwork an exceptional old-world charm.
The lower margin retains the important original press details including “Registered No. 513”, “Ravi Varma Press Picture Depot, Bombay” and “Ravi Varma Press, Malavli-Lonavla.” Christie’s has documented the same Shri Ram Janma, No. 513, measuring approximately 14¼ × 9½ inches, among early 20th-century Ravi Varma Press oleographs. �
