A rare and visually powerful vintage Indian devotional print of Lord Shiva in his Ananda Tandava form, titled on the original lower margin as “ANANDA-THANDWESWARA” – No. 14.

The composition depicts Shiva in a dynamic dancing posture, holding the damaru and sacred flame, with the crescent moon in his hair and a serpent forming part of the dramatic iconography. Shiva is shown triumphing over a figure beneath his feet, symbolising the victory of divine knowledge and cosmic order over ignorance.

The rich earthy palette, strong modelling of the figures and radiant halo create the appearance of an early Indian devotional painting while retaining the distinctive character of period commercial printmaking.

Most importantly, the original margins preserve significant historical publishing information:

Did You Know

Brass is actually an alloy, not a pure metal. It’s a combination of copper and zinc, and the proportions of these metals determine the colour and properties of the brass. Known for its durability and resistance to corrosion, brass has been used for centuries in everything from musical instruments to household items. Using brass utensils can impart a subtle metallic taste to food, enhancing its flavour profile.
