🪙 Description:
Presenting a rare full set of traditional Indian Seer weights – a treasured relic from pre-metric India, once widely used in markets and havelis for measuring grains, spices, and pulses. These weights are made of solid iron, beautifully hand-cast with embossed lettering in Hindi and English denoting weight units such as 2 Seer, 1 Seer, Half Seer, 250 Gram, 125 Gram, and smaller.
Each piece reflects exceptional craftsmanship with textured ridged edges and patina developed naturally over decades of use. These were the primary weights before the adoption of the metric system, making them both functional and historically significant.
Brass is actually an alloy, not a pure metal. It’s a combination of copper and zinc, and the proportions of these metals determine the colour and properties of the brass. Known for its durability and resistance to corrosion, brass has been used for centuries in everything from musical instruments to household items. Using brass utensils can impart a subtle metallic taste to food, enhancing its flavour profile.
