A remarkable antique James & Williams heavy iron padlock, featuring classic British industrial craftsmanship and an impressive naturally aged finish.

The solid iron body retains a deep, untouched patina developed over decades, while the front is fitted with a beautifully shaped brass keyhole cover stamped with a crowned “VR” emblem and “IMPROVED PATENT” lettering. The maker’s James & Williams name is stamped along the heavy rounded shackle.

The lock is accompanied by its old metal key, attached with a wire loop, making this a particularly attractive complete display piece for collectors.

Its substantial construction, oversized shackle, decorative brass escutcheon and authentic age-related wear give the lock tremendous character. Rather than being restored or polished, its historical surface has been preserved, allowing the original craftsmanship and vintage appearance to remain intact.

An excellent collectible for enthusiasts of antique locks, British hardware, Victorian-style industrial objects, architectural salvage and mechanical antiques.

Did You Know

Brass is actually an alloy, not a pure metal. It’s a combination of copper and zinc, and the proportions of these metals determine the colour and properties of the brass. Known for its durability and resistance to corrosion, brass has been used for centuries in everything from musical instruments to household items. Using brass utensils can impart a subtle metallic taste to food, enhancing its flavour profile.
