An impressive vintage Feuerhand No. 280 hurricane lantern, Made in Germany, retaining its original aged metal finish and distinctive period markings.

The lantern features the classic Feuerhand hurricane-lamp construction with a protective wire frame, large carrying handle and clear glass globe. The metal fuel tank is prominently embossed “280 FEUERHAND – MADE IN GERMANY”, together with the recognizable Feuerhand emblem.

A particularly interesting feature is the original-style metal identification plaque on the base, marked:

“FEUERHAND HURRICANE LANTERN

MADE IN GERMANY BY FEUERHAND HÜTTE

SOLE AGENTS: E. NAGEE & CO., BOMBAY-CALCUTTA”

This historic Indian distributor marking gives the lantern additional appeal for collectors of German industrial antiques and colonial-era Indian trade memorabilia.

The lantern has been preserved with its natural oxidation, surface marks and aged patina, giving it an authentic vintage appearance rather than a restored finish.

A wonderful display piece for collectors of antique lighting, railway and industrial memorabilia, vintage European objects and heritage décor.

Brass is actually an alloy, not a pure metal. It’s a combination of copper and zinc, and the proportions of these metals determine the colour and properties of the brass. Known for its durability and resistance to corrosion, brass has been used for centuries in everything from musical instruments to household items. Using brass utensils can impart a subtle metallic taste to food, enhancing its flavour profile.
